Privacy policy
How we handle your information on this website and in the WaterbergNET app. Last updated 28 October 2026.
Who we are
WaterbergNET is an internet service provider in the Waterberg, Limpopo, South Africa. You can reach us on 014 880 0526. We are responsible for the information described here, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect and why
Your account
When you sign in to the app or the client area, your username and password are checked by our billing system. We don't store your password. To show you your account, we keep your name, account number, phone number, email address, service address, package name and account status, copied from our billing system.
Connection checks
When you run a connection check, we record the results: download and upload speed, response time, the public internet address you tested from, the device model and operating system, the Wi-Fi network name and, on Android, the Wi-Fi signal strength. We use this to find and fix problems with your connection. The check only runs when you start it.
Support requests
When you report a problem, we keep what you tell us, where in your home or business the problem is, any photos you add, and the messages between you and our team. If you choose to share your location, we keep it with that request so a technician can find you.
Data use
We show you how much data your connection uses, from the records our network already keeps for billing and fault finding.
Requests from the website
When you ask us to check your area or get in touch, we keep your name, phone number, email (if you give it), area, message and, if you drop a pin on the map, that location. We use it only to contact you about your request.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app registers your device so we can tell you about replies and updates to your requests.
What we don't do
We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. The app has no advertising or analytics trackers.
Who can see it
Only WaterbergNET staff who look after support can see your requests and connection checks. Your information is stored securely with Google Cloud, which runs our app and website for us. The map on the website uses satellite photos from Esri and property boundaries from the Chief Surveyor-General; when you use it, your browser loads map pictures from those services.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while you're a client. Support requests and connection checks are kept while you're a client so we can see the history of your connection, unless you delete your account. Website requests are kept only as long as we need them to follow up with you.
Your choices
You can see your account details in the app and the client area. To correct them, call us. You can delete your app account, with your support requests and connection checks, in the app under Account, or ask us to do it. You can switch notifications and location off in your phone's settings at any time.
You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you think we've handled your information wrongly.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
